Non-dogmatic climate policy

چکیده

Disagreements about normative aspects of social time preferences have led to estimates the cost carbon (SCC) that differ by orders magnitude. We investigate how disagreements SCC change if planners are nondogmatic, is, they admit possibility a in their views and internalize future selves. Although nondogmatic may disagree all contentious preferences, reduce dramatically. Admitting once every 40 years results fivefold reduction range recommended SCCs.

“Dogmatic” P Systems

In this work we propose a variant of P systems based on the Central Dogma of Molecular Biology which establishes the transformation of DNA strands into protein products by applying different string transformation such as transductions and transcriptions. We introduce a new kind of worm object rules to carry out transducion operations. Finally, we establish the universality of the proposed model...

Uncertainty in climate science and climate policy

This essay, written by a statistician and a climate scientist, describes our view of the gap that exists between current practice in mainstream climate science, and the practical needs of policymakers charged with exploring possible interventions in the context of climate change. By ‘mainstream’ we mean the type of climate science that dominates in universities and research centres, which we wi...

Designing Climate Mitigation Policy

Global warming is one of the most critical, and also most daunting, challenges facing policymakers in the twenty-first century. Assessing a globally efficient time path for pricing or controlling greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is difficult enough, with huge scientific uncertainties, disagreement over the ultimate goals of climate policy, and disagreement over which countries should bear most re...

Ambiguity and climate policy

Economic evaluation of climate policy traditionally treats uncertainty by appealing to expected utility theory. Yet our knowledge of the impacts of climate policy may not be of sufficient quality to justify probabilistic beliefs. In such circumstances, it has been argued that the axioms of expected utility theory may not be the correct standard of rationality. By contrast, several axiomatic fra...

The Climate Policy Dilemmaf

Climate policy poses a dilemma for environmental economists. The economic argument for stringent GHG abatement is far from clear. There is disagreement among both climate scientists and economists over the likelihood of alternative climate outcomes, over the nature and extent of the uncertainty over those outcomes, and over the framework that should be used to evaluate potential benefits from G...
